Leveling up social awareness
For the American non-profit organization Rise, we developed a mobile endless running game to raise awareness for social justice and inspire the sports community to take action against discrimination. With the game, Rise aims to grow its community and appeal to a young audience. In cooperation with marketing agency OBE we created a game concept that educates while putting the fun of play first. Along the way, users will rise through the world of sport, while meeting allies and learning to take action in the face of discrimination.
Together We Rise - game principle
The name says it all - rise up until you reach the finishing line! With the help of Spark, the brave mascot, users travel through the world of Rise while collecting as many lights as they can to become stronger and ascend higher. Special collectibles of athletes serve as power-ups, while mean clouds of discrimination can let the players slow down or even fall. To get to the finishing line, players pass through 6 levels and answer quiz questions related to social skills that will help them rise up against discrimination.
Serious Gaming
Rise's mission is to educate the sports community about discrimination and empower them for social justice and racial equity. With the game educational contents now get a special place. The questions placed throughout the game relate to six important social skills that can help users to overcome discrimination in real-life. In the game gaining those skills will provide the player with extra benefits as a positive amplifier for learning. For instance, knowing the right answer to a skill involving teamwork, lets the player continue with a magnet that attracts all the lights. Gaining the skill of perspective taking gives the user the power to turn problems into opportunities and, in the game, turn clouds into lights.
Character design
Spark is the proud, confident, agile - and inclusive face of Rise. Inspired by the flame of the Rise logo torch, Spark represents a creature of light, that is fuelled by the light of the community. Spark sparks something in everybody.
Six levels through the world of Rise
Spark’s home is the world of sports, embracing any sport from tennis to running and baseball to football. Therefore we created a game environment that combines multiple sports and feels adventurous. Users ascend through 6 levels with different color schemes and rising levels of difficulty. Users can also select between Rookie and Pro difficulty depending on their personal skills. After completing the bonus level and crossing the finishing line, users can add their names to light up the community scoreboard.
Easy content management
To keep the game interesting for a longer amount of time, we built a simple content management system to allow Rise to add new skill challenges and athletes to the game.
