Scheidt & Bachmann Fare Collection Systems

XR Solution for Trade Shows

Scheidt & Bachmann, a renowned German manufacturer of public transport solutions, addresses the challenge of high logistics costs when showcasing their heavy machinery globally. By adopting a Mixed Reality (MR) solution, we recreated the interaction and visualization of their equipment and services virtually. This forward-thinking approach, leveraging Spatial Computing, not only reduces transportation expenses significantly but also captivates audiences at trade shows, attracting eager crowds to experience their product functionalities through XR technology.

XR Showcase to Engage Customers

The goal was to determine if XR technology could effectively showcase Scheidt & Bachmann’s products to a broad audience. We started with a simple prototype to test whether XR could serve as a tool for training and engaging potential customers. After validating the approach on multiple trade fair exhibitions, a second iteration added more complex interactions and content, enhancing the user experience and making the presentation more engaging.

Seamless Experience for XR Beginners

The first requirement was to find the right device for the initial use case. Two criteria were particularly important: first, whether we could implement the 3D visualizations using existing CAD data, or if further optimization phases were needed. Second, we had to find a VR headset that minimizes the entry barriers – which still exist for many users regarding XR and Spatial Computing – and ensures a seamless and inviting experience.

Meta Quest 3 for best Usability

We chose the Meta Quest 3 for its effortless usage, allowing us to efficiently process a high number of visitors without individual setup required. Its affordability compared to other models also facilitates a rapid rollout. By foregoing the use of controllers, we provide an intuitive, hands-on interaction tailored to the relatively inexperienced trade show attendees.

"The Augmented Reality headset and setup were nothing short of a triumph. Witnessing the overwhelmingly positive reactions from all who experienced it was incredibly gratifying. We've undoubtedly made a lasting impression.”

Virtual Interaction and External Display

Users can virtually grab a credit card and phone, interact with a card reader, and activate the gates. In addition to the visual interaction, the solution was enhanced with an audio track that provides background information about the back-office system during specific actions. This explains how the software operates in the background while processing and sending data. The combination of audio and visualization offers the advantage of explaining complex processes in a clear and engaging way, allowing users to better understand the system and making the experience even more immersive.
