Scheidt & Bachmann Fare Collection Systems

XR Solution for Trade Shows

Scheidt & Bachmann Fare Collection Systems is a leading provider of system solutions that make using public transportation easy. Their system solutions combine field devices, software, system platforms and a comprehensive range of services for international customers. However, high logistics costs present a particular challenge when showcasing their large field devices at trade fairs, events or customer meetings around the world. By adopting a Mixed Reality solution, we recreated the interaction and visualization of their equipment virtually. This approach, leveraging Spatial Computing, not only reduces transportation expenses significantly but also captivates audiences at trade shows, attracting eager crowds to experience their product functionalities through XR technology.

XR Showcase to Engage Customers

The primary goal was to test whether XR technology can effectively demonstrate the functionalities of Scheidt & Bachmann's machinery to a wide audience. Based on our knowledge from various spatial computing projects, we knew that mixed reality could be a compelling medium for educating and engaging potential customers.

Seamless Experience for XR Beginners

We needed to identify the most suitable device for the depicted use case and evaluate whether we could base our visuals on existing CAD data of the machines or if further development of 3D models was required. Additionally, it was crucial to minimize users' hesitation towards XR technology and Spatial Computing, ensuring a seamless and inviting experience.

Meta Quest 3 for best Usability

We chose the Meta Quest 3 for its effortless usage, allowing us to efficiently process a high number of visitors without individual setup required. Its affordability compared to other models also facilitates a rapid rollout. By foregoing the use of controllers, we provide an intuitive, hands-on interaction tailored to the relatively inexperienced trade show attendees.

"The Augmented Reality headset and setup were nothing short of a triumph. Witnessing the overwhelmingly positive reactions from all who experienced it was incredibly gratifying. We've undoubtedly made a lasting impression.”

- Ken Cameron, Managing Director Fare Collection Systems at Scheidt & Bachmann UK (Ldt)

Virtual Interaction and External Display

Users can virtually grab a credit card and phone, interact with a card reader, and activate the gates. To further reduce apprehension, we mirror the application on a large external screen, allowing onlookers to see the process and feel more comfortable trying the headset themselves.
