The Covestro Sample Lab App was launched at the K 16 in Düsseldorf, a trade fair for Plastics and Rubber and led the visitors through the wide-range portfolio of Covestro. The application delivers valuable information presented through playful creations and the possibility to interact with the fair’s exhibits. We were responsible for the concept and design of the app working hand in hand with the Covestro-team, the London-based Motion Designer Jordi Pages and the Cologne-based studio ImagineOn.
A new approach for a promotion tool
With the Covestro Sample Lab App we placed a focus on Covestro’s high level of innovation. It was our objective to deliver more than just information, more than the visible.
Building on creativity
We challenged ourselves with the aims to widen the horizon of the product itself and to target the users’ imagination. We split the app between an inventory of the materials and an inspirational tool that represents the brand for the first time in such a creative visual experience.
Acknowledging everyone with a vision
With our strategy we were able to meet B2B and B2C customers at once; during and after the K 16 fair. At the trade fair we connected the sample bar as well as the exhibits with the app in order to give a wide range of information within a convincing design. Our holistic vision was to represent more than a brand, more than information, more than the visible.
Lookbook & Playground
The user can explore the Covestro product-portfolio in a fascinating environment. We created six different worlds and translated the materials of Covestro into an inspiring experience and a story.
Abstraction of the Materials
Following a series of creative workshops and together with the Covestro team we mapped out the core of the products, went into an in-depth brainstorming around every key property each of the material has. The result were six creations allowing the user to dive into a fictional world that introduces a new dimension to the brand and its materials.
Playfully interactive creations
The creations aim to show the value of the Covestro materials by showing their wide scope of application. Whether by shaking the mobile device, holding a specific spot or a simply tapping, the user explores the creation and get to know the materials it was built of.
Designing the (in)tangible
Mobility, electronics, construction, health, sports and fashion: We created six worlds to visualize the properties of the different Covestro materials and embody them into the creations. Movement, precision, transparency, endurance, elasticity, flexibility, durability, and much more were the core of our interaction design. Our pixel-perfect work succeeded in bringing every material - realistically - into the interactions.
It’s a wrap!
We have enjoyed putting love in every detail through every aspect of the project, from expanding on the corporate identity’s color palette, to writing the story of every product, to art-directing the materials’ photoshoot and 3D-modelling. We have unlocked the brand and showed the limitless possibilities of its products, bringing the first Covestro mobile application to life.
