Hybrid Event Showcase in AR
As part of the 2022 SAP Sapphire Event Series SAP approached us at Demodern to develop hybrid software demo to showcase their enterprise resource planning software SAP S/4HANA Cloud. Using human muscle strings as a visual anchor, we created an AR event experience that enhances the corresponding web experience and engages visitors at the event while giving them detailed insights on what factors are crucial to process optimization of key lines of businesses?
Hybrid Showcase: Online & Onsite
Right from the start of the project we faced a difficult challenge: How to create an impressive event setup for the SAP Sapphire series – by the way: in eight cities spread all over the world – in a time where the procurement and distribution of special hardware poses an often insurmountable hurdle? By keeping it smart and simple!
Fasttrack into the Experience
Unlike to other software showcases we developed for SAP, we aimed less on a gamified approach but on a sophisticated storytelling, addressing a business target group. By choosing the “Bring Your Own Device” approach, visitors are able to access the application at the event booth directly with their own smartphone, so they are able to jump right into the experience.
Change the perspective
The event experience focuses on the sales & marketing line of business and highlights even the smallest process steps in detail. After a one-time scan of the QR code, visitors can place an abstract process visualisation model in the Eventspace via WebAR. The initially entangled structure of various non-optimized process steps can then be gradually optimized and streamlined by the visitors themselves.
Interactive AR experience
Step by step, the visitor is guided through various actions within a business process, displayed at different nodes within the process visualisation. By focusing these in the AR environment, the user is able to optimize each step of the business line while receiving valuable information about its role and influence.
Keeping the visitors engaged
Toggling as well as tapping elements make the AR experience even more interactive and help to highlight the informative perspective of the software. To add some playful mechanics into the experience, a progress overview provides that extra pinch of motivation to complete the process and “decode success”.

- THE SOLUTION
State of the Art in WebAR
Using the web experience of the SAP S/4HANA Cloud as the foundation for design and storytelling, we focused on the technical side of making the experience accessible to a wide audience. By using the 8th Wall Framework for WebAR we enable a large number of visitors to experience the application on-site since it allows high compatibility also with older devices and furthermore does not require the use of an additional app.
Hybrid Event Solution
In order to give the event experience a lasting impact even beyond SAP Sapphire, we linked its core message to the SAP S4/Hana Web experience, which covers the topic of process optimization in an even broader, yet also sophisticated way. By defining all business processes as the muscles of business, we show the interplay of business departments and SAP solutions. By using a visual-storytelling approach the user gets a close look at how various lines of businesses have to transform to get stronger, balanced, and more resilient to finally lift overall success.
